. Jind bypoll results: BJP wins high-stakes battle, Congress' Surjewala distant third
Ruling BJP won the high-stakes Jind bypoll in Haryana on Thursday with party candidate Krishan Middha defeating his nearest rival, Digvijay Singh Chautala of JJP, by over 12,000 votes.On January 28, voting took place. Nearly 76 per cent of the 1.72 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the multi-cornered contest
Four major parties are in the fray - the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, the Congress, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the newly launched Jannayak Janata Party (JJP). Main candidates are Randeep Surjewala (Congress), Krishan Middha (BJP), Umed Singh (INLD) and Digvijay Chautala (JJP). After the death of two-time INLD legislator Hari Chand Middha, the by-election was necessitated. His son is in the fray on a BJP ticket.
