Continuing their crackdown on separatist leaders in the terror funding case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) teams are conducting raids at 12 locations in Srinagar and north Kashmir’s Baramulla and Handwara.
Media reports suggest that the fresh raids have been carried out on those people who have financial links with the pro-Pakistan Hurriyat leaders including Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
The names of these people of NIA’s radar were disclosed by the seven separatist leaders who were arrested by the agency last month for their alleged receiving funds from Pakistan for inciting terror and unrest in the Valley.
The NIA has already arrested Altaf Ahmad Shah "Funtoosh", Naeem Khan, Akbar Khandey, Raja Mehrajuddin, Farooq Dar, Shahid Ul Islam and Peer Saifullah during its probe while Syed Ali Shah Geelani's sons - Naeem and Naseem Geelani were last week questioned.
The agency had claimed that the accused were waging war against the country and were involved in various offences punishable under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
It had also alleged that the accused were involved in creating unrest by way of anti-India demonstrations and bandhs.
For the first time since the rise of militancy in Kashmir in the early 1990s, a central probe agency has carried out raids in connection with the funding of separatists and carried out arrests.
